About the Baton Rouge, Gonzales, Prairieville, Louisiana Areas

Baton Rouge, Gonzales, Prairieville areas, located in the heart of Plantation Country, mixes Old South traditions with exciting new offerings. Our quaint towns (Baton Rouge, Gonzales, Prairieville) are surrounded by sprawling sugar cane fields and beautiful cypress swamplands.

Visit Baton Rouge, Gonzales, Prairieville during the Jambalaya Festival and sample our famous jambalaya, a delicious mixture of rice and cooked meats. In mid June of 1968, the first festival was held. Thirteen cooks vied to be crowned "World Jambalaya Cooking Champion." Participants included: Clarence 'Slim' Anderson (Regina Harp's Grandfather), Earl P. Bercegeay, Linden Bercegeay, Edward Braud III, W.J. "Gil" Braud, Uton Diez, George Fairchild, Edward Gaudin, Charles M. Gautreau, Authur "Fatty" Lessard, Sitman Loupe, E.L. Marchand and Donnie Mire. This year the competition is greater than ever. At least 69 cooks have put their name in the line to out cook the others for the world title.

My family has participated in the Jambalaya Festival since it started and six time Champion Norbert Loupe is my father's best friend and was a next-door neighbor when I was coming up. My father, uncles and cousins continue this family tradition of celebrating and cooking at the Jambalaya Festival each year.

Other parish celebrations include the Galvez-Lake Firemen's Fair, Louisiana Chili Cookoff, the Boucherie, Strawberry and Sunshine Festivals. Unique restaurants, lodgings, antique shops, and Tanger Factory Outlet Center are also located here.

Tour an Acadian village in Sorrento, and then discover our antebellum plantations. Houmas House, Tezcuco with its African-American museum, and Ashland/Belle Helene, Bocage, and l'Hermitage each depict gracious southern living.

Historic Donaldsonville served as state capital from 1830-31. This quiet town contains magnificent pre-Civil War architectural structures, including Ascension Catholic Church and St. Emma Plantation.

Real Estate Tips
For Sale By Owner >Selling Tools

After a month of trying to sell your home "By Owner" you may decide to list it with a real estate agent. If you are in this position, you may begin to notice that your agent doesn't market the home the same way you did. You ran classified ads every weekend, but your agent has only advertised twice all month. Even so, there is a lot more interest and activity than you were able to generate on your own.

When your home is being marketed professionally, your real estate agent has many powerful selling tools that make it worth hiring someone who is experienced and competent. Some advantages to hiring an agent are the national and worldwide referral networks, the Multiple Listing Service, and the Internet. We advertise extensively in almost every media available including TV, which may bring in a call from the people who will buy your home. We work cooperatively with other brokers and share information about listings. Communication is the key to a real estates success. Agents use all of these tools to market their listings aggressively to get sales action!
